Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project
KPAP objectives include:

raising public awareness regarding the proper treatment of porters on Kilimanjaro

assisting climbing companies with implementing procedures that ensure fair and ethical treatment of their porters

offering educational classes to empower and motivate porters and mountain crew as funding allows

lending climbing gear to porters and other mountain crew free of charge.
ROB, together with the Lake District National Park, are collaborating with KPAP and providing great kit to support KPAP's Clothing Lending Program.
KPAP is an initiative of the International Mountain Explorers Connection (IMEC), a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization based out of Boulder, Colorado in the United States. IMEC instituted the Partner for Responsible Travel Program to recognize climbing companies with responsible treatment practices. KPAP monitors the company’s treatment practices to determine if a company is meeting the proper treatment guidelines.

Kendal Mountain Film Festival
ROB is delighted to be able to announce the support and cooperation of the Kendal Mountain Film Festival in partnering together to raise sponsorship and awareness of the work performed by the charity in improving the skills and opportunities for the local porters, guides and cooks on Mount Kilimanjaro.
Yvonne and the ROB team will be attending the Film Festival in Kendal from 14-17th November to raise awareness of the charity and speak with supporters/sponsors within the mountaineering community.

International Mountain Explorers Connection (IMEC) is a US 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
Our Mission is to support an ethical mountain trekking culture by promoting social, economic and environmental responsibility.
Established in 1996, IMEC was created to promote responsible and sustainable connections between travelers and the people of developing mountain regions of the world. We have been active in Peru and Nepal.
Since 2020 IMEC has been focusing its efforts on the porters employed on Mount Kilimanjaro through its local initiative, Kilimanjaro Responsible Trekking Organization (KRTO).
